HIGHER EDUCATION
The Climate Remediation Foundation (CRF) has been supplying carbon offsets to higher-ed institutions since 2015. The principal source of these offsets come from Cap &Trade commodity markets such as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (“RGGI”), a State-run regulatory market that runs quarterly auctions of Allowances (aka credits, offsets).
Fossil fuel power generating plants that emit emissions above desired environmental caps are required to purchase Allowances to continue to operate until they come into compliance. CRF enters those markets and acquires Allowances and immediately retires them so they are no longer available as permits to pollute. Instead, it allows higher-ed institutions that buy those offsets from CRF to be used as credits toward their respective climate action plans. The proceeds from CRF purchases are used by RGGI to support clean energy initiatives.
CRF NEVER sells the same offsets twice nor does it ever put the offsets back on the market…once bought by an institution they take ownership of them with the stipulation that they will never be resold as “permits to pollute.” Transactions are tracked and recorded in CRF blockchain ledgers, thus making them immutable and totally free of greenwashing. See Offsets for more information on how CRF provides only auditable and verifiable offsets.
CRF sources other forms of Offsets from voluntary and compliant markets to fit specific requirements and missions of commerce and industry, such as compliance with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), the Paris Accord and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Examples of these are Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and offsets derived from agriculture and agronomy. Contact us today to discuss your needs.
CRF is a public charity, providing the maximum tax advantages for donors and those purchasing offsets.
